Abstract
The Integrated Mechanisms Program (IMP) is enhanced to include the capability of graphic output of simple mechanisms. The subroutines available in the graphics package GP-10 are used. The output consists of a drawing of the mechanism at its initial position and for every position for which the analysis is done. In addition, a graph of velocity and/or acceleration against the angle of the driving link may be plotted. There are limitations. The output of the mechanism represents only prismatic joints by a different symbol. It is represented by a rectangle and the symbol of the fixed link. All the other joints such as revolute, cylindrical, globular, universal etc. are represented by a point. The alphanumeric labelling of the output is limited to the position number only. The graphs obtained are points joined by straight lines and are not smooth curves. The labelling of the plots is limited to the scale and the quantities on the axes. The capability is only for the planar joints and not for the spatial joints as this is only a first attempt and it opens a wide range for further developement. Two examples are presented. One is a basic slider-crank mechanism and the second is a differential control linkage. Both the mechanisms are simple mechanisms consisting of only revolute and prismatic joints and hence are chosen for demonstration.
