Abstract

Research efforts in the Industrial Engineering Department here at New Jersey Institute have resulted in a unique and highly versatile computerized robotics database and retrieval system. The database consists of the major robots that are in use in industry today. Each robot is delineated in terms of its unique specification including vertical and horizontal reach, maximum load, memory and address capability, programmable steps, repeatability, degrees of freedom, cost and power considerations, end effectors, coordinate system, type of control and other features and applications. The accompanying retrieval system has been designed so that robots with particular functions in common, can be culled out of the database and presented in written and/or graphic form using charts, line and bar graphs. This paper defines and discusses this unique system and provides specific applications of the system to the field of industrial engineering.
