Abstract
This thesis deals with plotting of equipotential lines in an electrostatic field created by two parallel charged plates. Between the plates lies a dielectric cage inside which an animal (rat) is kept, on whom anatomical tests are to be carried out after exposing it to a certain electric field intensity for a given period. Values of the actual field to which the animal is exposed can hardly be obtained experimentally. Computer simulation in this case becomes a powerful tool. Starting with the uniform field ideally created between two parallel plates, it is then neccesary to find the effect of the cage and the animal on the field between these plates. Chapter III gives the Mathematical foundation on which the solution is based. The program given in Appendix A is built on this mathematical solution. Chapter IV gives the steps followed by the program in the form of a flow chart, whereas chapters VI-VIII give the procedure followed in building this program. Plots of equipotential lines for various states can be seen in Plots. 1 and 2. Knowing the values of potential at all the points in the field, the field at any point can be calculated. Thus, this program helps in determining the field intensity to which the animal is exposed over a certain period, and is important in the design of exposure systems.
