Abstract

The objective of this thesis is the study of the performance of instantaneously companded adaptive delta modulation (ADM) systems in comparison with linear delta modulation (LDM) in terms of signal to quantization noise ratio (SNR). Various schemes for ADM are discussed and their advantages and disadvantages are indicated. SNRs are calculated by simulation, with IBM's continuous system modeling programming (CSMP) language being used as a tool for simulation. LDM, first and second order constant factor delta modulation (CFDM), has been simulated and responses for different types of input signals are presented.
