Abstract

This thesis reports on the problems faced by handicapped workers placed in an industrial situation. It discusses some of the frustrations, aspirations and hopes of the disabled to find suitable work as well as the fears and misconceptions of employers who consider the employment of the handicapped.

There is discussed the work done by the author in designing jigs and fixtures to assist handicapped workers in production as well as the models of placement, job understanding and rehabilitation efforts.

The work was done at the Delaware County Branch of the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, Chester, Pennsylvania where the author interviewed both administrative and placement personnel as well as handicapped employees.
