Abstract
A hybrid adaptive algorithm for cancelling the maternal electrocardiography (MECG) component in abdominal fetal electrocardiography(FECG) is described. This algo rithm combines the advantages of the orthogonal algorithm which was developed by Reichert(1977) and the multiple reference noise cancelling adaptive algorithm which was developed by Widrow(1975).
The simulating experiment was taken to test all of these three algorithms. It demonstrated that all these three algorithms can cancel the abdominal component of the maternal ECG with three limb lead ECG signals. and the hybrid algorithm is at least as effective as each other algorithm alone. In this experiment, the abdominal ECG signal was taken from a male graduate student. Then we recorded the real abdominal ECG recording from six pregnant women to test the hybrid algorithm. The MECG component of these abdominal ECG recordings were almost cancelled This hybrid algorithm supplies a potential method for non-invasive fetal heart rate monitoring.
In the real abdominal ECG data collection, the quality of the signals are not good; this affects the demonstration of the hybrid algorithm.
In this thesis, the adaptive technique was also used to cancel the 60Hz noise in the ECG recording. It was demonstrated to effectively cancel the 60Hz noise.
