Abstract
Degradation rates for phenol, 2-chlorophenol, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), nitrobenzene and toluene were examined in an aerated biological batch reactor at room temperature. In addition to a mixed microbial population from a municipal treatment plant, three commercial bacterial preparations were also tested, and changes in those populations observed during exposure. Both substrate concentration and COD were measured, and the concentration data were most easily fit by a straight line.
