Abstract
A survey was conducted to determine the use of microcomputers by practicing civil engineers and the need for the integration of these computers in the civil engineering curriculum. The most commonly used computers are the micros, followed by the minis, with the main-frame as the distant third. All of the companies indicated that microcomputers should be integrated into the civil engineering curriculum, with 63% endorsing it very strongly. Basic emerged as the preferred language with emphasis on the use of commercially available programs. More than 50% of the microcomputer time was used for engineering applications.
