Abstract

This paper presents a description of the Electronic Information Marketplace that has been implemented as a specialized subsystem on the Electronic Information Exchange System (EIES). This system allows any user of the EIES system to sell and barter information, services and items to other EIES members. The system is designed as a direct user-to-user marketplace and completely eliminates the need for a special class of "Information Providers" typical of other current approaches. The implications of the electronic marketplace are discussed in terms of individual and public use, industry structure, costs, cooperative computing and user expectations and impacts. © 1985.
