Abstract
Elasticity solutions for sandwich panels assembled with nonrigid bondings and subjected to temperature changes are presented. The solutions satisfy the equilibrium equations of the face and core element, and the compability equations of stresses and strains at the interfaces. An experimental program is conducted to measure the normal strains in the faces of sandwich specimens under different temperature changes. A heat chamber is designed and used to cause thermal gradients across the specimens. The material properties were determined experimentally and used in conjunction with the analytical solutions. Both analytical and experimental results are found to be in very good agreement. © 1985 Society for Experimental Mechanics, Inc.
