Abstract
The method described herein reduces the complexity of analyzing multibay concrete plane frames for lateral loads. The actual frame is replaced with an idealized model, and the results are compared with computerized solutions of both the actual structure and the idealized model. Analysis results are compared with experimental lateral displacements of the Canadian slab model and the EFRAME computer method. The moment magnifier is studied by the method described herein, the ACI approximate method, the ACI direct P- DELTA method, and Gouwens' computer program. The results of this study demonstrate that the method presented enables rapid evaluation of wind drift for unbraced concrete frame buildings.
