Abstract

Finite difference analysis of the biharmonic equation on the modern microcomputer is presented. Some aspects of data entry are particularly interesting when large systems of equations must be treated. These are discussed in connection with the biharmonic equation. An example of a plate that is governed by this equation and can easily involve more than 100 finite difference equations is given. The concepts of line and block operators for data manipulation are introduced. It appears that the ideas presented here can further be applied to other types of equations and analyses and even when larger computers are used.
