Abstract

Chromium ore residues have been used in the past as fill. Salts leaching out of and migrating through these wastes over a period of time cause changes in volume of the fill material. This results in severe distress to structures constructed in and on such waste materials. In this paper, some actual cases of such instances are presented along with information regarding some typical identifying features of chromium waste sites and typical distress experienced by structures on such sites. © ASCE.
