Abstract
We propose a new antenna-array concept, called an independently center-fed dipole array (ICDA). Such an antenna array is capable of minimizing the nonlinear phase characteristics inherent to the log-periodic dipole array (LPDA). The characteristics of a two-element ICDA array are analyzed numerically and assessed experimentally. By using the method of moments (MoM) and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, we show that the workable frequency range of the ICDA is the sum of the individual elements' bandwidths. In addition, two ICDA arrays are built. The SWR and transmission coefficient S 21 are measured, and the same conclusion is derived. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
