Abstract
Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) is a fundamental solution for broadband access and metropolitan networking, and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is the promising counterpart of broadband wireless access (BWA). In this paper, we propose a quality of service (QoS) architecture of integrating GEPON and WiMAX in the access network. Combining the medium access control (MAC) of both IEEE 802.3ah and IEEE 802.16, the QoS architecture provides admission control and uplink scheduling to serve classified traffic. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed architecture facilitates broadband access by providing QoS support to diverse end users.
