Abstract

The various flow parameters of round jets of water impinging normally on a flat plate are measured experimentally. The velocity and pressure distribution along the axis of the jet at various sections of the jet parallel to the horizontal lucite striking plate and along the impinging surface was found. The nozzles used were 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch in diameter. The Reynolds number based on the nozzle diameter was 15,000 to 25,000. The distance from the jet origin to the deflecting boundary ranged from thrice the diameter of the jet to twelve and sixteen times the diameter of the jet. The experimental results yield an error of less than fifteen percent when compared with the results of other experimental and analytical studies.
