Description
Chemistry analytical devices, such as a spectrophotometer, often contain a light source that emitted a broad spectrum of electromagnetic radiation (light). A large voltage across two internal electrodes creates a plasma discharge in the gas within the lamp. In some applications, the lamp also contains a specific metal such as sodium, which resulted in an optical emission specific to that material.
