Abstract
The difficulties with addressing toxic air pollutants are the sheer number of compounds present in the atmosphere and their sources. The purpose of this book is to develop an approach to understanding toxic air pollutants through synthesis of the scientific results obtained in the Airborne Toxic Element and Organic Substances (ATEOS) project. It will provide documentation on the concentration patterns of a number of toxic air pollutants, in three different urban settings and one rural area. These are examples of locations where toxic contaminants can be found in significant concentrations.
