Abstract
Every day, a criminal finds a new way to attempt a crime, so it is very important to update the technology, which can help us to identify the evidence against a criminal by which our judicial system can get help in solving cases and make justice more rapidly. The gun is the most preferable and easily available weapon for committing the crime. That is why the detection of gunshot residue is the most important scenario while investigating criminal activity. In present time, the use of explosives like RDX, TNT, DNT, etc. are increasing in terrorist activity, and therefore, it is necessary to find a way for the detection of these explosive compounds. Earlier technology required examinations that can only be performed in the laboratory by analysis of the evidence that took more time and effort to get examined, which lead to increase in the chance of degradation. In order to overcome this problem, the sensors developed through latest technology help in providing more rapid and accurate detection of such explosives and gunshot residues. The sensors give fast and accurate sensing against a very low concentration of evidence particles at the crime site. In this chapter, the detection of gunshot residues and explosives using sensor technology has been discussed.
