Abstract

For more than 40 million Americans, making responsible dietary choices can be daunting, requiring consumers to be tethered to one or several dietary guidance web sites. ScanAvert allows the consumer to specify one or multiple dietary criteria important to them/their family in one single site/application. Consumers download the service app on their Android or iPhone, and follow the prompts to register their dietary profile, either on the handset or the web site, choosing among allergy, prescriptions, illnesses/conditions and nutritional allowances menus. This establishes a family’s profile or dietary filter. There is also a custom diet feature for users to create their own algorithm in addition to those listed on the diets/dietary restrictions menu. Unlike most apps, whereby all information resides within the programmed app, ScanAvert is a web-enabled app, continuously feeding information to and from the Internet. This was a deliberate choice to allow for interoperability between devices and several authorized users, including family, physicians, healthcare providers and facilities.
