Abstract
The novel coronavirus of "2019-nCoV” has been recognized as one of the powerful viruses with a potential to impart various diseases related to respiratory disorders. Furthermore, this virus addresses genetical similarity to both SARS coronavirus and SARS-like coronavirus (transmitted through bats). The outbreak of this virus has been reported strictly from Chinese province, which additionally has been reported in severe travel-associated cases. All these reports have set the world on fire for an urgent need related to therapeutics and diagnosis. Nanotechnology takes a completely novel approach toward developing new methods for detection of coronavirus that are less costly and readily available. Nanotechnology also paves a better way to make safety equipment for personal protection and novel treatment options. Using nanotechnological techniques, equipment such as nanosensors have already been employed against bacteria and viruses for their early detection, aiding in better and quick medical help for the patients. For several years, researchers have been trying to understand and use the potential of nanotechnology for the detection and treatment of numerous bacterial and viral infections by using nanoparticles either directly against the infecting agent or via antibiotics in conjugation with nanoparticles for better and enhanced activity. For example, some metallic nanoparticles can be used against viruses such as Ebola by attaching them to the virus through heating the nanoparticles using infrared wavelengths, which leads to the degradation of viral structure. In the wake of this chronic COVID-19 pandemic, these nanotechnological techniques can be altered as per the virus and can be used to detect and fight the infection caused by it. This chapter focuses on better diagnostic methods for coronavirus through nanotechnology and related methods.
