Abstract
Graphitic carbon nitride received great interest from the researchers in the design and development of novel carbon nanomaterials for environmental applications. Graphitic carbon nitride and their nanocomposites exhibit a number of superiorities, including being green, low-cost, facile synthesis, nontoxic, and highly stable. These unique features make these materials as promising candidates for the extraction, catalysis, and sensor applications in environmental chemistry. This chapter presents and highlights the latest advancements of graphitic carbon nitride and their nanocomposites as efficient adsorbents, photocatalysts, and sensing materials in environmental applications. Strategies for their synthesis and functionalization are described in detail. The adsorption, photocatalysis, and sensing mechanisms in environmental applications are also briefly discussed.
