Abstract
Schonblom1 has correctly demonstrated that the efficiency of the thermal spring, described in his note, is limited by its material properties to impractical values. The spring considered was a solid elastic bar with fixed ends, which stored energy by developing thermal stresses in excess of 50 MPa when exposed to sunlight. © 1983 American Association of Physics Teachers
