Abstract
It is common practice in college today to employ graduate students to teach laboratory and recitation sessions. Due to the shortage of engineering faculty experienced by educational institutions and the increased emphasis placed on research, the practice of assigning graduate assistants to teach is expected to continue. Under these circumstances, there is a need to organize orientation programs for graduate teaching assistants. The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at New Jersey Institute of Technology has recently conducted orientation programs. Some relevant aspects of these programs, which were presented in three sessions, are discussed.
