Abstract
Oral surgeons have observed that a significant reduction in post-operative pain and swelling resulted if various anti-inflammatory drugs were administered shortly before or after surgery. In order to establish the relative merits of these medications and to optimize their administration, a pre-operative and a series of post-operative measurements of the swelling are necessary. The facial plethysmograph developed for this purpose employs a tactile 'feeler' rod to trace out skin contours in a series of suitably spaced horizontal planes (X-Y coordinates).
