Abstract
To analyze and evaluate the number of industrial robots in use today, a copyrighted computerized robot database and retrieval system was developed. This database of 220 robots contains the following information on each robot: description, robot ID, vertical reach, horizontal reach, maximum payload, drive type, memory capability, programmable steps, repeatability, degrees of freedom, maximum speed, power requirements, price, end effectors, and special features. Based on this information, a series of robot models were developed. They define generic functions and characteristics of robots used in industry today. For each category, (ex. repeatability) the range of values are discussed and norms for the industry are presented.
