Abstract
The damping action on the synchronous inrush current during the state of induction is analyzed. This could be accomplished by inserting a hard magnetic core at the top of the damper winding. Modifications in the machine dynamic equations and its equivalent circuit that account for the existence of nonzero slip are presented. Steady-state properties of the hard magnetic core act as an automatic switch for releasing the surge in the damper impedance as well as for ending it.
