Abstract

In this study, a new class of polymer concrete is developed, in which hydration of cement and curing of a thermosetting resin can take place simultaneously during the mixing of the concrete components. This is a mixture of very special unsaturated polyester latex combined with portland cement, aggregate in the proportions similar to those used for normal concrete, except that the special latex replaces water. New class of this kind of the polymer concrete, which can be manufactured by an extruder, attains properties similar to those of plastics, steel and concrete with strength far superior to standard concretes.
