Abstract
Incineration is a technological and economical answer to many hazardous waste and sludge disposal problems. Incineration can be the answer to difficult disposal problems for quantities as small as a few pounds per hour to hundreds of tons per day. The management considerations of incineration for specific applications are comprised of: equipment costs, pollution control regulations and energy and operating constraints and waste composition. A wide array of wastes can be destroyed by incineration including gases, liquids, sludges, and solids using a variety of energy sources including natural gas, fuel oil, and infrared heaters. Subjects covered include design requirements, types of incinerators, process equipment availability, and others.
