Abstract

The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) produces and broadcasts a televideo computer science course for college credit. The course is prerecorded in 15 segments and shown on a New Jersey Public Cable television station. The segments of the series were designed as distinct modules. Each of the 15 one-hour segments covers a specific concept. The concepts are stated at the beginning of each segment and a summary is given at the conclusion. Course registration as well as distribution of texts and workbooks is directed by phone and mail from NJITs Office of Extension Programs. Video course registrants must have access to a computer with a Pascal compiler. The University's Computer and Information Science Department assigns 'video instructors' (one per 25 registrants) to the course. They handle hot-line telephone calls to answer student questions and provide a mailing address for assignment submission. Viewer feedback to date indicates the course is a success.
