Abstract

Torsional spring constants at a piping-nozzle juncture are presented in this paper. Due to the mathematics difficulty, this problem is investigated by using the finite element method through the 'ANSYS' program. These constants are computed for a piping-nozzle vessel with uniform shell thickness of 0. 375 in. , 0. 5 in. and 0. 75 in. respectively. Plots for the torsional spring constants in terms of beta (nozzle radius/pipe radius), gamma' (pipe radius/pipe thickness) and alpha (pipe length/pipe radius) are presented.
