Abstract

A precision plethysmograph for glottographic application is described. The design considerations that arise from salient physiology, electronics, and safety standards are discussed quantitatively. The circuit is described in detail and the electrode configuration is shown. Quantitative analysis of the instrument supports the usual geometrical interpretation of the electroglottogram as a conduction signal, with conduction increased by glottal closure. A simple circuit for test, phase alignment, and amplitude calibration is shown.
