Abstract
Wilson’s method of spectral factorization is considered for generalization to the two-dimensional (2-D) case. For practical implementation, finite order approximants to the 2-D spectral factors of infinite order are obtained. Although stability or convergence cannot be guaranteed in general, justifications are made for the simulated success of the proposed generalization. Illustrative examples are given to support the conclusions. © 1988 IEEE
