Abstract

Computers have begun to occupy a sizable amount of time for students in engineering - in class and at home. For students with little or no computer background, a course outline that incorporates a modular approach is presented in this paper. The contents of an introductory course in mechanical design are divided into 'modules', each of which contains a separate topic. When the modules are put together, the course offers a strong footing in computer assisted analysis. The division of courses into modules is believed to be a logical approach to a course that includes several distinctly different areas, each of whch is a subject by itself. A course that was offered at NJIT in the past has undergone favorable changes by following the above guidelines.
