Abstract

In an earlier paper, a finite difference analysis of the biharmonic equation on a microcomputer was presented. To facilitate data entry involved with a large number of finite difference equations, the concepts of line and block operators were introduced. In this paper, a further step is taken to apply the procedure to the analysis of plate stiffness. Specifically, a rectangular plate is loaded through a square rigid inclusion, and the plate stiffnesses are determined as force and moments are transmitted to it through the rigid inclusion. The solution of up to 119 simultaneous equations has been successfully obtained on the microcomputer.
