Abstract
A simulation model is used to analyze the performance of LANs using the Token Bus protocol (IEEE 802.4). With packet length as a parameter, system performance is analyzed for different loads, numbers of stations, network lengths, and both physical distribution and logical distribution of the stations. The logical distribution of the stations can have an effect on the Token Bus LAN. The physical distribution of the stations is much more significant in the CSMA/CD case than in the Token Bus case modeled here.
