Abstract
One of the major issues in the study of AIDS is understanding the manifestation and the progression of the disease following HIV transmission. A simulation approach can be used in predicting the various stages from HIV infection to AIDS. A mathematical model of the immune response to HIV is developed here. A set of nonlinear, first-order differential equations is formulated. The model predicts the response of CD4+ cells, cytotoxic and NK cells, polymorphs, and antibodies in the infection. The results of this model are in close agreement with actual clinical observations in patients.
