Abstract
Considering that fossil fuel is ending in a short future, we need some replacement to meet our needs. Recently, researchers’ attention has been moving toward natural polymers. One of them is tragacanth gum, an ancient polysaccharide known since the Theophrastus age, and up to now, it has been used widely in different fields. It is because of its properties features renewability, biocompatibility, biodegradability, stability at a wide pH range, nontoxicity, cost-effectiveness, abundance, etc. The results of reviewing many papers indicated that tragacanth gum would be a suitable replacement for petroleum-based components, leading to a decrease in oil refinery costs and related processes. This review will show that tragacanth gum is a miraculous and God-given gift with many functionalities.
