Optimization of energy utilization in the course of material processing

Abstract
The objective of this work is to demonstrate feasibility of the application of the soft computing (neural network and genetic algorithm) for optimization of the energy use in manufacturing. We discuss a specific technology, the rust removal by an impinging waterjet, in order to illustrate such an application. An experimental data representing the waterjet derusting was acquired. The Artificial Neural Network was used for process modeling while the Genetic Algorithm was applied for process optimization. The effectiveness of the proposed procedure is shown.
