Abstract
In this work, we introduced the problem of optimal geolocation updating for location aware services in wireless networks. We proposed and analyzed different geolocation updating schemes for location aware services in wireless cellular networks. We showed that trajectory prediction and adaptive updating intervals could significantly decrease the amount of signaling load generated by geolocation updates sent by mobile stations. Intelligent yet simple scheme for tracking and predicting users' locations and computation of geolocation updating intervals provides a multifold decrease in signaling load in networks where users with a dominant direction of movement are present.
