Abstract
The principles and applications of several commonly used techniques for the extraction of volatile compounds from solids and liquids are described. These include: static and dynamic headspace extraction, membrane extraction, solid phase micro-extraction and liquid-liquid extraction. Large volume injection techniques for gas chromatography are also introduced.
