Abstract
An overview of Internet-based virtual private networks (VPN), the generic deployment framework and main enabling techniques is presented. VPNs aim to deliver information among multiple parties over a shared infrastructure in the private network-like manner. It becomes an effective solution for today's e-business applications, making access to the network globally available while protecting the information that flows across it. VPN implementations include tunneling/encapsulation, authentication, encryption and network management.
