Abstract

During the past years, as labor costs rose, safety and environmental regulations took hold and robotic capabilities became more sophisticated; therefore, robots became valuable pieces of production equipment. Manufacturers put robots on the job to consistently produce quality products, to work in a hazardous environment, or to perform heavy duty work which humans are not able to do. Although robots have so many benefits, robot application still meets a great deal of obstacles, especially in the areas of environmental restrictions, management capabilities, and social implications.

The objective of this thesis is to identify and discuss the robotics impact on the management system and social implications in Taiwan's industry. It also will investigate the feasibility of robotics implementation and the enterpriser's attitude towards robotization in Taiwan's industry. In order to understand the degree of robotics' influence, a questionnaire was developed and mailed to 20 Taiwanese companies, which have robots-operations experience. The result of this survey will present the percentage and the number of companies utilizing robotics techniques. A case study was presented later to supplement and expand the results of this survey. This thesis will end with a suggestion for a method to solve the robot application problems in Taiwan's industry.
