Abstract
The concept of waiting patiently and impatiently is examined and a model is proposed which is helpful in explaining Increases in the levels of impatience. A survey of people working in the computer field was taken so that a measure of the time within which the average person becomes impatient for a variety of computer operations could be determined. These answers were then compared with the results of a survey taken in 1968. Results show that there was no significant difference between these two groups even though the survey taken in 1968 was expected to show longer expected response times than the group surveyed in this paper. The answers to the survey in this paper were correlated with the background of the respondents, (i.e., whether they had experience with large, mini, or micro computers).
