Abstract
This thesis deals with how computer graphics can be applied to the pressworking of sheetmetal. Blanking, bending and cup drawing are the major pressworking operations. A computer graphics package was developed with the aid of the Tektronix 4051 computer. This package would help the designer of pressworking operations. All the programs were written in BASIC computer programming language.
The programs written for the stock layout display the various stock layouts for circular, rectangular, square, triangular shaped components or any irregular shaped component on the computer screen. Each stock layout displays important parameters such as material utilization percentage, width of stock and progression. The programs written for the blanking calculations determine the tonnage, energy required, stripping force and thickness of stripper plate.
The program written for the bending operations calculates the developed lengths of U-bends, V-bends, hard metal bends and wipes. The program written for the cup drawing operation calculates the diameters of cylindrical shells. For sequential drawing operations, the program finds the diameter, height and tonnage for each stage of the drawing operation. The orthographic views of blanking die components can be drawn using the program written for computer automated drafting.
