Abstract

The effects of the merger upon the People Express Airline company is studied with particular emphasis upon changes in corporate culture and structure.

A case study approach utilizes an extensive literature search and interviews with People Express executives. It is confirmed that the structural change has led to the cultural change.

With a unique style of management structure and culture, People Express, due to its own mistakes and problems, quickly lost its market share and allowed itself to be taken over by Continental Airlines a subsidiary of Houston based Texas Air Corp.

It is interesting to note that the corporate culture itself is seen as slowly changing as the structure and tasks change. It is also found that there is a great degree of uncertainity.
