Abstract
This paper will not dwell on the multiplexity of statistical reports on migrant farmworkers in New Jersey. The paper will have a four fold purpose to describe in detail the significan extent of migrant labor within the agriculture system.
For purposes of the study the writer will discuss the following:
(1) The history of agriculture in New Jersey.
(2) The living and working conditions of migrant farmworkers.
(3) The factors that prohibits migrant farmworkers from entering the non-farm labor stream.
(4) The impact of technology in agriculture as it replaces human labor with farm mechanization.
It is the writer's opinion that migrant farmworkers are not fairly represented even though they are an integral part of the agricultural economy.
Both the writer and her advisor would like to create more public awareness of the economic conditions that reinforces the endemic characterization of New Jersey's migrant labor force. It is hoped that public recognition may somehow be an acceptable approach in assisting farmworkers in their aaily struggle against disparity and uncertainty.
To validate the study, various methods of research will be used such as interviews, case studies, and other related reading materials. Without research and public awareness, the much nccded solution to migrant farmworker problems will definitely worsen. One should not underestimate the impact of technological innovation in the system of agriculture as it pertains to farmworkers. Preserving the state's agricultural economy requires a wide spectrum of coordination of private and public action to solve the complex labor problems.
