Abstract
The advantage of using high strength concrete is to reduce column sizes and to increase stiffness. At present there are not any available design aids and the code provisions that provide adequate guidelines for the design of slender columns in high strength concrete.
A total of four 3 in. by 3 in. dimension, 4 ft. length high strength concrete specimens were casted, cured and tested till failures in a vertical pinned-ended configuration. The experimental results were compared with the analysis using Hsu failure surface equation.
Moment, curvature and load deflection cures were obtained successfully from the present experimental tests. These curves included not only the ascending branch but also the decending branch of the load-deformation behavior.
