Abstract
Remoras (Family Echeneidae) are unique fishes that evolved a suction disc on their head, allowing them to symbiotically attach to a wide range of marine animals, including sharks, whales, and sea turtles. They attach using both suction and friction forces. While the development and mechanics of this novel disc are understood, we know very little about how it evolved.
