Abstract
There are many unsolved issues with robotic cooks. One of the essential issues is high cost, which prevents it from being widely used among families. Another is that most current cooking robots need help by pre-preparing ingredients, taking users substantial time. Additionally, they have pre-fixed recipes and procedures to cook so they cannot adapt to fit an individual's special tastes and needs. This work introduces a design for an affordable self-learning robotic chef for home, which not only can do all kinds of kitchen work, ranging from pre-preparation to cooking; but also, is capable of self-learning from multiple sources, including the Internet, books, audio, video, and human demonstrations, and can adapt to an individual's special request, which other cooking robots could not do today. A cost analysis is also introduced to estimate the cost of the robot, showing that the robot should cost much less than normal cooking robots today. Compared with other existing robots, the proposed cooking robot only needs a small amount of human assistance.
